01. Who we are
This website is operated by the Academy of Science and Arts (“the Academy”, “we”, “us”), an independent organization publishing the research of Joseph P. Firmage and colleagues, and offering the ORIGAMI Observatory, the KAIROS publications, the Academy Fellowship, and related programs.
This policy explains what personal information we collect when you visit academyofscienceandarts.org or contact us, how we use it, and the choices you have. Questions can be sent to Support@AcademyOfScienceAndArts.org.
02. Information we collect
Information you send us. The website has no accounts, sign-up forms, or online checkout. When you email or call the Academy — for example about the Fellowship, an Observatory request (GIFT), the Cosmos Conference, or the HOLOIM Aerospace Alliance — we receive the information you choose to share, such as your name, email address, phone number, organization, and the content of your message.
Fellowship and program details. If you become a Fellow or take part in a program, we keep the details needed to provide it, such as your contact information, membership dates, and records of payments you make to us. Payments are arranged directly with the Academy; we do not collect card details through this website.
Technical information. Like any website, our hosting provider automatically records standard server logs (such as IP address, browser type, pages requested, and the time of the request) to deliver the site and keep it secure.
03. Cookies and analytics
This website does not set its own cookies and does not use advertising or analytics tracking.
Some features load content from third parties, which may receive your IP address and browser information when you use them (see “Third-party services” below).
04. How we use information
- To reply to your messages and requests.
- To provide Fellowship benefits, event access, Observatory requests, and other programs you sign up for.
- To send updates you have asked for, such as KAIROS reports or event announcements. You can ask us to stop at any time.
- To keep records required for accounting, legal, and tax purposes.
- To operate, secure, and improve the website.
We do not sell or rent your personal information.
05. Third-party services
To run this website we rely on a few outside services. Each handles data under its own privacy policy:
- Web hosting — serves the website and keeps server logs.
- Google Fonts — provides the typefaces used on the site.
- Document hosting — the KAIROS PDFs are stored on a separate file host and downloaded from there when you open them.
- Google Docs Viewer — used to display PDFs inside the in-page reader. You can instead use “Open in new tab” or “Download”.
- LinkedIn and X — only if you follow links to the Academy’s or the founder’s profiles.
- Email — messages you send are handled by our email provider.
06. When we share information
We share personal information only when needed: with service providers who help us operate (such as email and hosting), with your permission, or when required by law or to protect the rights and safety of the Academy and others.
07. How long we keep it
We keep correspondence and program records only as long as needed for the purpose they were collected for, and for any period required by law. Server logs are kept by our hosting provider for a limited time.
08. Your choices and rights
You can ask us to tell you what personal information we hold about you, correct it, delete it, or stop sending you updates. Depending on where you live, you may have further rights under local data-protection law. To make a request, email Support@AcademyOfScienceAndArts.org. We may need to confirm your identity before acting on it.
09. Security
We take reasonable steps to protect the information we hold. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so please avoid sending highly sensitive information by email.
10. Children
This website is intended for a general adult audience. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has sent us information, contact us and we will delete it.
11. Changes and contact
We may update this policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top shows when it last changed. For any question about privacy, email Support@AcademyOfScienceAndArts.org or call 385-296-3638.
